Imran Ahmad
Imran was born in Portland, Oregon and attended Reed College where he received a bachelor’s degree in Biology. After years working in cancer research, he decided to pursue his interest in literature and he received a master’s degree in Humanities from the University of Chicago.
Living in Chicago exposed Imran to many of the problems in our criminal justice system. When he returned home to Oregon, he worked as a policy analyst focused on addressing laws that required youth to be charged as adults. Realizing a law degree would help his advocacy efforts, he attended Northwestern University School of Law, graduating in 2014. While at Northwestern, he participated in the Center on the Wrongful Conviction of Youth clinic where he assisted in the representation of wrongfully convicted teenagers, many of whom were convicted based on false confessions. Imran was fortunate to work on multiple cases that resulted in exonerations, an experience that instilled in him a commitment to criminal defense work.
Mr. Ahmad joined the Law Offices of Beles & Beles after working as an appellate public defender in Chicago where he represented clients on direct and collateral appeals. With experience in appellate work at one of the nation’s largest appellate defender offices, Imran's primary focus at the firm is direct and habeas corpus appeals.
In his free time, Imran enjoys playing tennis, basketball, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and hiking throughout the Bay Area with his wife and 120 lb. mastiff.
